Woman abandons her newborn girl baby on Children’s Day

Mysore/Mysuru: When the entire country was celebrating Children’s Day, a woman abandoned her newborn baby girl near a circle on Yachenahalli Sultan Road at Hegguru village, Bannur Hobli in T. Narasipur taluk of Mysuru district on Nov. 14 night.

One Sandesh of Hegguru village, who heard the baby crying at about 8.30 pm, rescued the baby along with others and brought the baby to his home. Later, through an ASHA worker and Anganwadi workers, informed about it to the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), who in turn informed Child Protection Unit.

Soon, Apekshitha Bhaskar and Counsellor Divya of the Child Protection Unit, along with CDPO Govindaraju rushed to the village and with the help of Police took custody of two-day-old newborn baby girl from Sandesh and Suvarna. They then produced the baby before Child Welfare Committee (CWC) President M. Ravichandra and later handed over the baby to the Government Adoption Centre.

CWC President Ravichandra said that a child is an asset of the country and urged not to abandon babies but instead hand them over to the nearest Anganwadi or Child Welfare Committee or can call Child Helpline No. 1098, thus saving the life of the baby.
