Buries body, lodges missing complaint after six-seven months
Mysore/Mysuru: Varuna Police, on Monday, have arrested a woman on charges of killing her mother over petty reasons, burying the body and lodging a missing complaint after six to seven months. The Police have also arrested her husband in the case.
The incident had taken place in Mandya about a year back and Varuna Inspector Chethan and staff have successfully cracked the case. The Cops, who got suspicious after the accused woman lodged a missing complaint after many months, investigated the case and arrested the woman and her husband. The accused couple have two daughters who are under the care of relatives.
While the accused couple are Anusha and Devaraj, the deceased is Sharadamma, a resident of Hebbakavadi village in Mandya district.
Details: Sharadamma, after her husband’s death, was staying alone in Hebbakavadi village. She had got her daughter married to one Devaraj of Harohalli in Mysuru district.
In the meantime, Sharadamma began to suffer from eye problems and as she was staying alone, she had asked her daughter Anusha to get her treated. But due to financial problems, Anusha delayed in getting her mother’s eye treated resulting in Sharadamma getting upset on Anusha.
In November 2022, Anusha brought her mother to her husband’s house and got her eye treated in Mysuru. After getting her mother treated, Anusha, along with her husband Devaraj, brought Sharadamma to Hebbakavadi village to drop her to her home, during which Sharadamma expressed her displeasure against Anusha over the delay in getting her eyes treated.
This resulted in wordy duel between Sharadamma and Anusha and in a fit of rage, Anusha pushed her mother. Sharadamma lost her balance and fell down. While falling, Sharadamma’s head hit the cot resulting in her breathing her last on the spot.
Shocked over the incident, the couple shifted the body of Sharadamma to the village burial ground late in the night and buried the body. They later returned to Harohalli.
But whenever relatives enquired about Sharadamma with Anusha, she used to tell them that she had gone out of station. But when Sharadamma was not seen in the village even after six to seven months, Anusha’s relatives told her to lodge a missing complaint. Meanwhile, Sharadamma’s sister Devamma and her daughter called Anusha over the phone and told her that they would lodge a missing complaint with the Police if she did not do so.
Left with no other option, Anusha lodged a missing complaint at Varuna Police Station in June. She had stated in the complaint that her mother had come to get her eyes treated and has gone missing, Inspector Chethan said.
Based on the complaint, Varuna Police, who registered a missing case, began their investigation but had suspicion on Anusha’s behaviour. Also, her relatives had expressed their suspicion on Anusha. In this backdrop, Inspector Chethan, who took the case seriously, interrogated Anusha, during which she spilled the beans.
A case was registered under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against Anusha and her husband Devaraj and arrested them.
As the incident had taken place at Hebbakavadi, the case was transferred to Mandya district. Future course of action will be initiated after the case is transferred to the jurisdictional Police Station.
