Pandavapura: Depressed over son’s habit of consuming liquor, a 36-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Hemavathi Canal at Amruti village in the taluk on Dec. 13.
The deceased are Salma Banu, wife of Khader and daughter Shabana Banu.
On Dec. 12, Salma Banu’s son 18-year-old Shafiulla had gone to the birthday party of his friend. When he returned home late night, his mother found him drunk and advised him to mend his ways as he was young and had much life ahead.
But depressed over her son not listening to her, Salma Banu told her son “when you have such a bad habit in a young age, how can you take care of us in future?” This led to a wordy duel between the mother and son, it is learnt.
On Dec. 13 morning, Salma, along with her daughter Shabana, left home and reached Hemavathi canal at Kajjikoppal near Jakkanahalli and reportedly jumped into the canal and committed suicide.
A missing complaint was lodged at Melukote Police Station on Dec. 13 and the Police, who had launched a search, found the bodies of Salma and Shabana floating in the canal near Gangawadi in Nagamangala taluk yesterday.
