Woman pillion rider killed as truck hits bike

Mysuru: A woman riding pillion on a motorbike was killed on the spot, while the rider sustained injuries when a truck hit the bike at Sathagalli Junction on the Outer Ring Road on Wednesday afternoon.

While the deceased has been identified as Rajeshwari (42), the injured rider is 45-year-old Sundrappa, brother of Rajeshwari, residents of Hanakola village, Kirugaval hobli of Malavalli taluk in Mandya district.

On Wednesday, Sundrappa, with Rajeshwari riding pillion on his Hero Honda Splendor bike (KA-11-EF-9506), was proceeding from Mahadevapura Road towards T. Narasipur Road to attend a house-warming ceremony.

When they were waiting at Sathagalli Junction on the Outer Ring Road, a truck (RJ-27-JD-1435), which was proceeding towards VTU Regional Office on the Ring Road, rammed into the bike, resulting in Rajeshwari sustaining serious injuries on her head and breathing her last on the spot.

After hitting the bike, the truck dragged the bike along with Sundrappa to a distance before coming to a halt. Luckily, Sundrappa escaped with injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

Siddarthanagar Traffic Police, who reached the spot, shifted the body of Rajeshwari to MMC&RI mortuary where post-mortem was conducted this morning and the body was handed over to the family members. A case has been registered.
