They were on their way to Bengaluru after offering Ashada puja atop Chamundi Hill
Maddur: A woman and her son were killed on the spot, while her daughter and son-in-law sustained serious injuries after their car crashed into a road divider on the Rudrakshipura By-pass Road on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway on Friday.
The family had visited Chamundi Hill to perform Ashada puja and were returning to Bengaluru when the accident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Kala (40) and her son Darshan (21). The injured are Kala’s daughter, 23-year-old Megha and son-in-law Manjunath. All are natives of Kunigal in Tumakuru district and residing in Bagalakunte, Bengaluru.
The injured were rushed to Maddur Government Hospital for first aid before being transferred to MIMS Hospital in Mandya for further treatment.
The family, devotees of Goddess Chamundeshwari, had come to Chamundi Hill in Mysuru for the Ashada month rituals and had the darshan of the presiding deity. After performing the puja, they set off for Bengaluru.
While travelling on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, their car crashed into the road divider, killing Kala and Darshan on the spot and seriously injuring Megha and Manjunath. Preliminary Police reports indicate that Manjunath was driving the car and that rash driving was the cause of the accident.
Maddur Traffic Police rushed to the scene, conducted a mahazar (spot inspection), registered a case and moved the deceased to the mortuary in Maddur. They also transported the injured to the hospital.
The Police seized the car, which was completely damaged in the crash.
