Woman’s gold chain stolen in city bus

Mysuru: A woman has lost her gold mangalya chain while travelling between City Bus Stand and Hinkal on Sept. 8.

The woman, who lost her gold chain, is 70-year-old Gowramma, a resident of Karimuddanahalli village, Bilikere hobli in Hunsur taluk. The gold chain weighed 32 grams and valued at about Rs. 1.70 lakh.

On Sept. 8, Gowramma, who came to city from her village, boarded a city bus to Hinkal. As there was a rush, Gowramma was standing and there were three women, who knew each other standing in front and behind of her.

Upon reaching her destination, Gowramma alighted from the city bus, went to her daughter’s house and washed her face and she realised that her gold mangalya chain was missing.

Recollecting her travel in the city bus, Gowramma came to know that one of the women dropped coins twice and requested her (Gowramma) to pick them up for her. As the coins fell near her feet, she bent down, picked up the coins and gave them to the woman. Gowramma has suspected that the woman may have stolen the gold mangalya chain when she bent down to pick up the coins.

Gowramma later lodged a complaint at Vijayanagar Police Station and the Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.

It may be recalled that Star of Mysore had published a similar incident titled ‘Woman ‘robbed’ of gold chain in bus’ on Sept. 11, where one C.N. Jyothi, a resident of Kuvempunagar who was travelling in the city bus between Hardinge Circle and City Bus Stand on Sept. 9, lost her gold chain worth about Rs. 2 lakh.

Here too, an unidentified woman dropped a few coins and asked Jyothi to pick them up for her. By the time Jyothi picked up the coins, the unidentified woman had alighted the bus.

But when Jyothi touched her neck, she found her gold chain missing and lodged a complaint at Devaraja Police Station.

It looks like women thieves, making use of the rush, have devised a new plan of dropping coins in buses, requesting fellow woman co-passenger to pick them up for her and steal the gold chain, when the co-passenger bends down to pick up the coins.

Woman bus commuters have urged the authorities concerned to identify such women thieves and initiate action against them.
