A day-long painting expo of woman achievers, jointly organised by District Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Kannada Sahitya Kala Koota, Mysuru, as part of Women’s Day celebrations, began at Suchitra Art Gallery, Kalamandira here this morning.
Speaking after inaugurating the expo, former Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Manjula Manasa said that the painting expo is an honour to women achievers.
Noting that it is a matter of joy for women as Women’s Day is being celebrated throughout March, just as Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated throughout November, Manjula called for organising more such expos in order to educate the people about women achievers, who rose to become great leaders through sheer determination and dedication.
KSGH Music and Performing Arts University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sarvamangala Shankar, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Y.D. Rajanna, artist Dr. Jamuna Rani Mirle, social worker Dr. Sukanya, District Sharana Sahitya Parishat President M. Chandrasekhar, artist U.G. Mohan Kumar Aradhya, Jayappa Honnali, Rajashekhar Kadamba, Moogur Nanjundaswamy and others were present.
The day-long expo features pen drawing of over 50 woman achievers by U.G. Mohan Kumar Aradhya, a science teacher serving at a school in K.R. Nagar taluk.
Paintings of great women achievers such as Gangubai Hangal, Indira Gandhi, Astronauts Sunita Williams and Kalpana Chawla, singer S. Janaki, writer Vydehi, athlete Ashwini Nachappa, women warriors Onake Obavva, Akkamahadevi, Rani Chennamma, Rani Abbakkadevi etc., figure in the exhibition.
The expo is open to public up to 7 pm this evening.
