Wood energy and growth

We want to live in calming sanctuaries that bring peace and success. We want our spaces to be connected to the nature. Living by the riverside, close to luscious green woods, growing organic food, breathing fresh unpolluted air — signifies emotional well-being that brings good luck into lives.

The ancient methodology of building homes always got positive results, as homes were made of natural materials, walls were simple lime mortar, sand, clay. It allowed transfer of natural energy; doors and windows were positioned to ensure maximum flow of energy, sunlight and cross ventilation. Many homes had the concept of open court yard in the middle of the house to channelise nature’s energy and this open court yard was a very important aspect of Vaastu principles and Feng Shui. Homes that had large spaces, surrounded by greenery, signified freshness, serenity. There was a time when we all lived connected to the nature with a sense of deep gratitude for all that the bountiful earth had given us. Green architecture or green design is an approach for reducing the harmful effects of building on human health and environment. Vaastu and Feng Shui emphasise harmony and balance between human and nature moreover the concept of green architecture has been supported by these ancient sciences for thousands of years. What is so special about the word ‘Green,’ is it just a colour in the spectrum?

Green in Feng Shui is the colour of renewal, fresh energy and new beginnings. Green represents wood element, it also is said to nourish growth, health, it calms your nerves and balances your whole body by bringing healing vibrations from Nature.

From fresh spring colour of the newly opened leaves to the strong green of a mighty oak tree — there are literally hundreds of greens to choose from in your Feng Shui applications. A great way to bring colour green in Feng Shui is with actual plants that have lush green foliage.

• Keeping a green or Earth element candle burning in the east as often as possible is an excellent way to energise healing energy. Candles also create an atmosphere of serenity and help to sooth and calm the emotions.

• Energise the wood sector (east) of your home with lush green accents, such as pillows, rugs, or window treatment. If the east sector is the living room, dining room or any room other than a bedroom, this is a great location for a beautiful potted plant. (Live plants are considered too Yang for the bedroom). In an eastern bedroom, use solid wood furniture as well as green accent colours.

• Adapt a design so that maximum entry of sunlight and proper cross ventilation exists.

• Create rain water harvesting pits in the property in the east and north sectors or the northeast quadrant which is considered good from Vaastu perspective and ensures that the ground water is replenished
