Mysore/Mysuru: Online fraudsters, who conned a woman with a promise of doubling her money, have cheated her of Rs. 3 lakh.

A case has been registered at Alanahalli Police Station in the city.

The victim is 34-year-old Sowmya (name changed) of the city. Her husband works in a private company and Sowmya, to contribute to family purse, by taking up work-from-home job offer, fell into the trap of fraudsters.

On Aug. 1, Sowmya received a message on her WhatsApp and one Avika from AWIGN company informed Sowmya about earning a good money through work from home. Sowmya was told to complete a few tasks to become eligible to invest and the invested money will be doubled by the company. Sowmya was given a few tasks on Telegram App and after she successfully completed the tasks, Sowmya was given Rs. 4,000 as bonus.

Believing in them, Sowmya borrowed money and on Aug. 2  transferred a total of Rs. 3,02,500 through Google Pay and IMPS to various Bank accounts.

As she did not receive any bonus, she demanded the fraudsters to give back her money to which she was told to pay again to heed her request.

Realising that she has been taken for a ride, Sowmya blocked her account.

Alanahalli Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
