Workshop on Energy Conservation Building Code held

Mysuru: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, in association with UNDP, GEF and Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), recently conducted a one-day Capacity Building Workshop on Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) for Architects, Builders and Civil Engineers in city.

S. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman, Builders Association of India (BAI), Mysuru Centre, inaugurated the workshop by switching on a LED solar lantern.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Buildings are major consumers of energy in their construction, operation and maintenance phase. Energy consuming systems for lighting, air-conditioning and water heating, which provide comfort to its occupants, consumes large quantum of energy. Taking the utilisation of consumption into consideration, it is necessary to design a building focusing on energy conservation aspects.”

Continuing he said, “ECBC encourages energy-efficient design or retrofit of building so that it does not constrain the building function, comfort, health, or the productivity of the occupants. Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency is the fastest, cleanest and cheapest way to meet Energy needs. India could save each year by greatly improving Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency in the building.”

Following the inauguration, a Technical Session was conducted by BEE-certified ECBC Master Trainers Kuldeep Kumar and Shivakumar Bathra. More than 100 Architects, Builders and Civil Engineers participated in the workshop.

D.K. Dinesh Kumar, Project Engineer, KREDL, was present on the occasion.
