Mysuru: The District Health and Family Welfare Department, District Surveillance Office and District Tobacco Control Cell, in association with the KSRTC Divisional Controllers, Bannimantap Depot Manager and Sathagalli Depot Manager, had organised a training workshop on Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) recently as part of the Tobacco-Free Mysuru City programme.
The officials said that the programme was being held to create awareness on ill-effects of consuming tobacco products and to help citizens maintain good health by not using tobacco products and hence COTPA-2003 was being implemented in the district effectively.
The participants of the workshop were made aware of salient points of COTPA like prohibition of sale of tobacco products in vicinity of educational institutions, banning of smoking in bus stands, Railway Station, hotels, parks, cinema theatres, public and private offices and other public places, display of boards indicating ills of smoking and banning of advertisements on tobacco products, not to sell tobacco products to minors and sale of individual cigarette among others.
District Surveillance Officer Dr. Kusuma was present.
