Mysore/Mysuru: With State Government implementing ‘e-Governance’ in all Departments, it is a must for everyone to know about prevention of cyber crime, opined Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) Mathew Philip.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Cyber Security and e-Governance’ organised jointly by e-Governance Division of Administration Training Institute (ATI) and District Training Centre (DTC) under the Central Government Skill Development Scheme at ATI auditorium recently.
The Dy.SP said that of late, cyber crime was increasing due to the gross misuse of internet. People were losing money and important information due to petty mistakes. Knowingly or unknowingly, citizens were getting into problems and suffering losses. Cyber crime happens only if computers, laptops and mobile phones have internet connection. Many a time, e-crime takes place with or without the knowledge of people. Data stealing was rampant so as thieving money from bank account. These were the biggest challenge for the Cyber Crime Police. Finding culprits in these cases was very difficult as they will be in different places. Hitherto, Police Stations were flooded with murder, robbery and dacoity cases, but now it was the turn of cyber crime, he noted.
Be vigilant
Philip said that the Government has already implemented e-Governance in order to make paperless offices and the staff concerned must be vigil especially when they deal online as there are chances of becoming the victims to cyber crimes.
Keeping all these in view, the workshops are held to keep the staff of all Departments on alert mode. Though information pertaining to cyber crime looks immaterial for them, it was better to have knowledge of it as the victims are mostly educated. “Don’t lose money or valuable information for one small mistake,” he warned.
Cyber Security Adviser Ananth Prabhu, ATI Principal Shivaramaiah and Lecturer Nagendra were present.
