Mysuru: A two-day capacity building workshop on Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) was conducted by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, in association with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), recently for the students of School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), University of Mysore, recently.
Dr. H.N. Nagendara of SPA inaugurated the workshop by switching on a LED Solar Lantern. Speaking on the occasion, he said that buildings are major consumers of energy in their construction, operation and maintenance phase. Energy consuming systems for lighting, air-conditioning and water heating provide comfort to its occupants.
Taking the utilisation of consumption into consideration, it is necessary to design a building focusing on energy conservation aspects.
ECBC encourages energy-efficient design or retrofit of building so that it does not constrain the building function, comfort, health, or the productivity of the occupants.
Dr. B. Shankar, Associate Professor, who was the guest, said Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency is the fastest, cleanest and cheapest way to meet Energy needs. India could save each year by greatly improving Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency in the building.
Following the inauguration, a technical session was conducted by BEE certified ECBC Master Trainers Shivakumar Bathra and Kuldeep Kumar. D.K. Dinesh Kumar, Project Engineer, KREDL, Dr. H.S. Kumara, Assistant Professor, SPA, were present.
