Workshop on Internet of Things held

Internet of Things (IoT) workshop in progress.

Students sensitised on understanding ‘wealth triangle’ of Ideation, Technology & Commerce

Mysuru: MICA PU College, Mysuru, had organised a workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) for its students recently.

The workshop was conducted by S.P. Shreevari, S. Srikeerthi, G. Sourabha, Chandan B. Gowda and S. Kunal, student volunteers at the Open Source Community of Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering.

In her welcome address, the mentor for MICA PU, M.N. Ponnamma expressed her hope of IoT playing a major role in health in general in the areas such as analysis, forecast and pre-diagnosis, withstanding one’s privacy being invaded with extensive application of IoT.

The workshop focused on how things get smart when technology progresses and humans need to keep up with digital smartness.

The mobile phone is one of the smartest developments of the world into which everything is integrated and the goal is to disintegrate it and make all devices and equipment just as smart as the smart phone.

The workshop also shed light on the development of 5G network which makes things easier and faster using smartphones itself as network generators. Though the students were enlightened about the benefits of 5G they were also made aware of the various drawbacks it comes with, making the session more informative.

Shreevari also mentioned his concern over scientific bent of mind not having a commercial perspective and stressed on understanding of the ‘wealth triangle’ of Ideation, Technology and Commerce which can put innovation in motion.

In the workshop, the participants built working models of light sensors, sound sensors, humidity sensor and bar graph plotter using the IoT techniques.

The workshop sowed the seeds of importance of technology in the students’ minds to initiate them into the working of technology, according to a press release from the College Principal.
