Workshop on renewable energy held

Mysuru: Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) had organised a workshop on ‘Proper utilisation of LPG, savings in electricity and use of solar energy’ at the Institution of Engineers on JLB Road here yesterday.

About 50 women participated in the workshop which also featured an expo of solar products.

Inaugurating the programme, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath opined that switching over to solar power would bring down electricity consumption drastically. She asked people to go for renewable energy as fossil fuels were depleting fast on earth.

Delivering the keynote address, KREDL Project Engineer D.K. Dinesh Kumar said that the organisation has launched many programmes to promote renewable energy.

He pointed out that 64% of power generated today was through non-renewable energy sources and added that the percentage would be drastically reduced by 2022 supplementing that by renewable sources.

Social Activist and Karnataka Woman of the Year awardee A.R. Sudhamani was the chief guest. Mythri Mahila Koota President Latha Siddegowda, Secretary Padma Suresh, Inner Wheel Club of Mysore West President Sunita Bhaskar, Nagahamsini Bhajana Sangha President Umadevi and Ranjitha of NVS Creations were present on the occasion.
