Mysuru: Marking the 23rd World Tribal Day, Karnataka Adivasi Rakshana Parishat, District Unit, has organised a mega meet at Maharshi Valmiki Bhavan in Vijayanagar 2nd Stage here on Aug. 9.
Disclosing this at a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan here on Friday, Parishat President M. Krishnaiah said that the programme would feature a seminar on tribals focussing on their social, economic and educational status.
Former MP A.H. Vishwanath will inaugurate the programme on Aug. 9 at 11 am. Parishat District President Kariyappa will preside. A commemorative volume ‘Adivasi Usiru’ will be released by K.M. Methri, Professor, Department of Tribal Studies, Hampi Kannada University.
Continuing, Krishnaiah said that over 2,000 tribals from the district will participate in the programme to impress upon the government on the present status of the community. The meet will also urge the Government to provide political recognition and honour tribal achievers.
Parishat State General Secretary B. Kavera, District President Kariyappa, General Secretary G. Swamy and others were present at the press meet.
