Wrestling tournament attracts huge crowd

Mysuru:  The  traditional wrestling competition, organised by Ashokapuram Pailwan Purushotham Abhimani Balaga in association with Mysuru Wrestling Association at D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium in Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) grounds here on Sunday, attracted a resounding response from the public who had assembled to watch some of the breath-taking wrestling bouts.

The wrestling tournament was organised as part of former Mayor Purushotham’s birthday celebrations.

A total of 45 pairs of wrestlers took part in the wrestling bouts among which the one featuring Pailwan Chethan Gowda of Nazarbad and Pailwan Chethan of Palahalli was intense with both wrestlers giving their best to come out victorious. The bout which lasted for about 30 mins was declared a draw as no result was achieved within the stipulated time.

Similarly, the bout between Pailwan Prakash Ingalagi of Bagalkot and Pailwan Sunil Jadhav of Kollapur (Maharashtra), which was expected to go for an hour, ended in just 20 mins with Pailwan Prakash emerging victorious.

This was followed by a wrestling bout between Pailwan Rohan Gavade (winner of 2023 Dasara Kesari Title) and Pailwan Basavaraj Patil of Davanagere Sports Hostel ended in a draw. However, in the tie-breaker point wrestling bout, Pailwan Rohan emerged victorious. The organisers awarded both the wrestlers with cash rewards.

Former Mayor Purushotham, Navee Kumar, Mysuru District Wrestling Association President Pailwan Chandrashekar, General Secretary Pailwan Star Venkatesh, Pailwan Girish Nakshatra, Pailwan Haridas, Pailwan Sunil Kumar, Pailwan Vinod Kumar and others were present.
