Mysore/Mysuru: Several people belonging to Brahmin community participated in mass Yajurveda Upakarma conducted at Sri Yoganarasimha Swamy Temple, Vijayanagar in the city on Monday.
After changing their janivara (sacred thread), Brahmins performed sandhya vandane, recited gayatri mantra and took part in the homa.
Temple Founder Prof. Bhashyam Swamiji, who took part in the rituals, said that the lack of awareness among children belonging to Hindu community, about the present condition of the religion is palpable, thus leading to its setback.
Of late, the respect towards elders is also on wane, which is due to the absence of culture and life values among the people. It is regretting to note that the elders are sent to old age homes.
Amid such worrying situation, the temples should evolve as the centre to respond to the woes of the people, without restricting them to religious activities alone, said Prof. Bhashyam Swamiji.
Temple Manager N. Srinivasan, Sheshadri, Girish, Mysuru District Brahmins Youth Forum General Secretary Vikram Iyengar, Chakrapani and others were present.
