Sir,
Indian soldiers are known for their best fighting spirit in the world followed by the new crop of doctor warriors in Covid-19 pandemic. The latest to join the rank is our cricketers, the débutante rag-tag eleven who stood like David to flatten the Goliath at Gabba in Down Under to make them eat the humble pie with a war cry ‘Yes We Can.’
The victory is sweeter because after the drubbing in the first Test, dismissed with ignominy for 36 runs and despite being taunted and hit by injuries, they fought with guts to create cricketing history.
It is not the first time that India has triumphed under most adverse conditions — whether it was in 1983 against redoubtable West Indies, against Pakistan in the World Cup or against Australia in 2001 when follow-on to defeat Australians in the series.
Here it is appropriate to remember Rahul Dravid for many of the youngsters were trained under his ‘Garadi’ and this win is like a Guru Dakshina to him.
