Mysore/Mysuru: The Yoga Dance-Drama contest organised by Dasara Yoga Sub-Committee at Senate Bhavan in Manasagangothri campus enthralled the gathering on Sunday.
More than 25 Yoga teams from across the State took part in the event. They performed various ‘Asanas’ such as Padmasana, Shavaasana, Pranayama, Vajrasana, Vakrasana, Bhujangasana, Yekapada Shalabhasana, Dhanurasana, Ardha Halasana, Trikonasana, Makarasana etc.
The contest was held under two categories for both boys and girls — Under 18 years and Over 18 years.
Mysuru’s Warrior and Yoga Sports Foundation teams bagged the first place in Boys Under-18 category. The two teams won a Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000 each.
In the Boy’s Over-18 category, Mysuru’s Vivekananda Yoga Kendra bagged the second place (Rs.3,000) while Mysuru’s Government Ayurveda College bagged the third prize (Rs. 2,000).
In the Girls Under-18 category, Vivekananda Yoga Kendra of Mysuru bagged the second Prize (Rs. 3,000) and Mysuru’s Wellness Yoga Centre secured the third prize (Rs. 2,000).
Earlier, AYUSH Commissioner Leelavathi, who spoke after inaugurating the event, said that like Dasara, Yoga too has a tradition. Maintaining that Yoga has the power to make one physically fit, she said that Yoga must be more popularised throughout the country. Everyone should promote Yoga by engaging with it, she added.
Yoga Dasara will be held till Oct. 22, during which several Yoga events will take place.
Yoga exponents R. Ravichandra, G.N. Krishnamurthy, K.G. Devaraj, N. Mahesh, Ganesh Kumar, Gajanan Hegde, Sudhakar, Radhakrishna, Hemanth Kumar, Rafeeq, Ravikumar and others were present.
