Bengaluru: As part of 75th year of Indian Independence and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) has organised ‘Yogathon’ at 31 districts across the State on Aug. 28.
Speaking to presspersons, Sports Minister K.C. Narayanagowda informed that the programme aims to gather about five lakh yoga enthusiasts from each district and set a Guinness World Record and also Yoga, which has its origin in Karnataka, India, will be familiarised to people. “Yoga was certified as a sport and for the first time this year yoga was included in Khelo India University Games. Actor and motivational speaker Ramesh Aravind is the ambassador for Yogathon.
CSR fund assistance
Additional Chief Secretary Shalini Rajanish, who too spoke, said that Yogathon is being organised with a budget of Rs. 5 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Through Yogathon, efforts have been made to drag youths to practice yoga. The themes of the programme are ‘Yoga for Disease-free Life’, ‘Yoga for Good Health and Life’ and ‘Yoga for World Record’.
