Mysore/Mysuru: A chain snatcher, who was fleeing with a gold chain he had snatched from a woman was caught by a youth in Vijayanagar yesterday evening.
The woman, along with her child was standing near a two-wheeler, next to SBI Bank at Sangam Circle in Vijayanagar 3rd stage, when the chain snatcher yanked off her gold chain and fled from the spot.
A youth, who was passing by, heard the screams of the woman, rushed to her help, chased the chain snatcher and caught him. When the chain snatcher tried to escape, Jayalakshmipuram Police, comprising Inspector Kumar and staff Devaraj, Bharat and the driver, who were coming from Vijayashreepura side, took custody of the chain snatcher. As the incident took place in Vijayanagar Police limits, they handed him over to the jurisdictional Vijayanagar Police.
It is learnt the chain snatcher, at about 7 pm, who had parked his bike on the adjacent road, was pretending to be walking and waiting to snatch chain from those lonely women going for a walk. When he saw the woman with a child standing alone, he yanked off the 40-gram gold chain of the woman and tried to flee to the adjacent road where he had parked his bike but was caught.
Vijayanagar Police are interrogating the accused.
