Yuvaraja’s students demand basic facilities

Mysuru:  Over 2,000 students of the historic Yuvaraja’s College in city took the protest route this morning demanding basic facilities.

Shouting slogans, students, both girls and boys, boycotted the classes and raised their voice against pathetic facilities at the college.

Assembling in front of the College, students, with placards, demanded immediate attention from the authorities towards the conditions of the toilets.

Yuvaraja’s College is one of the autonomous Colleges under the University of Mysore.

Claiming that the College was lacking in cleanliness and clean drinking water facility and other basic amenities, the students alleged that canteen food prices were high and that the parking spaces inside the campus were not maintained properly.

The students also demanded that the Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore personally visit the campus in order to have first-hand information on the lack of facilities in the College campus.

Students said that many VIPs, including the present Chief Minister Siddharamaiah studied at the College and the facilities offered at the institution at present were pathetic. Toilets are stinking as they are not cleaned regularly. Girl students face a lot of trauma as they have to use these unhygienic toilets, students alleged.

When every College strives to provide subsidised food to the students, the canteen at Yuvaraja’s charge extra price for every item offered, they alleged.

“The rooms exclusively meant for girl students have been converted into classrooms and we have no place to rest,” complained a student. “We step out of our homes to learn and we step out of our College to use toilet,” another student alleged.
