Mysuru Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Deputy Secretary B.M. Savitha said that sports is important for maintaining physical and mental health.
She was speaking after inaugurating the women’s sports meet jointly organised by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) as part of International Women’s Day (Mar. 8) celebrations, at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad here yesterday.
Noting that women work both inside homes and offices with equal importance, she said that there are stressful conditions everywhere and sports acts as a tool to get relief from stress. She called upon women to take part more in sports and achieve success on par with men.
ZP Deputy Secretary-2 Dr. M. Krishnaraju said that such sports meet will help women get relieved from their daily stress and work pressures. He also underlined the need for displaying sportsmanship all the time and accept victory or loss gracefully.
DYES Assistant Director Bhaskar Nayak, senior Geologist Dr. K.N. Pushpavathi, NSS Officer Dr. Lakshmi Palodi, M. Lavanya Vijayalakshmi, R. Sundaresh and others were present.
Hundreds of women from across the district took part with enthusiasm in the day-long sporting event, which featured Athletics events like Running Race, Long Jump & Shot-Put and games such as Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, Musical Chair, Throwball and Tug-of-War.
All the participants were distributed Pink coloured T-shirt and a white cap.
