‘Private detective’ arrested for blackmailing student

Mysuru: Devaraja Police have arrested a person on charges of posing as a private detective and black mailing a student. The Police have recovered a laptop and a mobile phone from him.

The arrested is 53-year-old Bharadwaj Sharma, a resident of 4th Cross, Vijayanagar 1st stage in city. On May 24, Bharadwaj, posing himself as a private detective, summoned Sharan, the student to Elite Detective and Investigation office in Shivarampet and allegedly threatened him that he had cheated the girl he had loved and black mailed Sharan that he would telecast his news on TV.

Bharadwaj later summoned Sharan’s parents to the office and told them that their son had cheated a girl and told them to solve the problem soon besides threatening them of telecasting their son’s news on TV. Bharadwaj later took a laptop and a mobile phone from Sharan and Rs.50,000 cash from his parents. Devaraja Police, who had registered a case in this regard, traced Bharadwaj, arrested him and recovered the laptop and mobile phone.

Devaraja Inspector G.T. Srinivas, SI S. Raju and staff Somashetty and Suresh were involved in the nabbing and recovery operation, according to a press release from the Public Relations Officer,                                          City Police Commissioner’s Office, Mysuru.
