Mysuru’s Varsha S. Puranik, representing Karnataka in the 14th edition of the National Speed Ice-Skating Championship (2017-18) held at Gurgaon recently, won gold in the senior women’s section. Varsha emerged as the winner of the second Vasudha Trophy for Women Speed Skaters.
The 30-year-old doctor from Mysuru, pocketed Rs. 50,000 after winning gold in the senior ladies’ category (over-19s). In her maiden National Championship on ice, back in 2005, Varsha won bronze.
This was the fourth time at the event for the Mysuru resident, her confidence growing with each outing.
She has been winning gold for the last three years in succession. Varsha is being coached by Ekalavya Award winner and Mysurean K. Srikantha Rao.
