15 arrested for assault on Tahsildar at relief centre

Madikeri: Kushalnagar Police have arrested 15 persons, including two women, in connection with the assault on Somwarpet Tahsildar Mahesh at a relief centre in Kushalnagar town on Tuesday night (Sept.18).

The arrested have been identified as B.T. Sanjeev, P.V. Vasanth Kumar, T.G. Siddu, R. Annappa, P.K. Sanju, P.K. Thimmappa, P.K. Majunath, M.N. Mohan, Anand, T.V. Roshan, C.K. Tejkumar, Adish Kumar, P.S. Manjunath, Chitra and Nisha, hailing from different villages in Madikeri Taluk.

Following complaints that several outside persons were unauthorisedly staying in the relief centre at Kushalnagar’s Valmiki Bhavan, Somwarpet Tahsildar Mahesh arrived at the centre on Sept. 18 night to check.

Mahesh was taking a count of the flood victims sheltered in the camp who were 287 in number, when a group of persons heckled and assaulted him, causing him head injuries. He was later treated at Madikeri District Hospital.

Following a complaint from Mahesh, the Kushalnagar Police had registered a case in this regard. The Police who  conducted an investigation, arrested the 15 accused yesterday and produced them before a Magistrate this morning, where all of them were remanded to judicial custody.
