Mandya: Chief Minister Siddharamaiah has said that 16 lakh families would get new BPL cards in a fortnight.
Speaking at the launch of development works of Centre-sponsored Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Project here yesterday, Siddharamaiah said that the Government schemes are not limited to only AHINDA communities, but has reached all 6.5 crore people of the State.
Pointing out that the Government has earmarked Rs. 764 crore for irrigation projects for the year 2017-18, he said that the total farm loans availed by the farmers is Rs. 52,000 crore, out of which Rs. 10.730 crore is from Co-operative Societies and the remaining is from Nationalised Banks. The State has waived loans up to Rs. 50,000 availed from Co-operative Societies. Similarly, if the Centre announces loan waiver of Nationalised Banks, it would help the farmers, he said.
Noting that with the distribution of 16 lakh new BPL cards, the number of Anna Bhagya beneficiaries in the State will increase to four crore, Siddharamaiah said around 1.5 crore children across the State are being benefited by Ksheera Bhagya scheme where milk is distributed in schools for five days a week.
Recalling his long association and emotional attachment for the district from his student days, the CM said that he won’t discriminate between Mysuru and Mandya as both the districts are equally dear to his heart.

He further said that the State Government will fix the sugarcane price based on that to be fixed by the Union Government.
Housing and Mandya District in-Charge Minister M. Krishnappa, Animal Husbandry Minister A. Manju, Transport Minister H.M. Revanna, MP C.S. Puttaraju, MLAs K.S. Puttannaiah, D.C. Thammanna, P.M. Narendra Swamy, Ramesh Babu Bandisiddegowda, ZP President J. Prema Kumari, DC N. Manjushri, ZP CEO B. Sharath and a host of officials were present.
The city had turned into a fortress in view of the CM’s visit. Heavy security arrangements were made as a precautionary measure. The Police detained BJP workers who were staging a protest at Visveswaraya Circle, accusing the State Government of failing to invite Union Ministers for the launch of Centre-sponsored projects. The CM later launched works on a mega dairy coming up at a cost of Rs. 227 crore on the premises of Mandya Milk Union Limited (ManMUL) at Gejjalagere, Maddur taluk.
