Mysuru: Nearly 1,600 artistes representing different folk and cultural troupes are expected to take part in the ‘Jumboo Savari’ procession on Sept. 30.
These artistes will be divided into 40 troupes and the district authorities have planned to follow the Republic Day parade (held every year in New Delhi) model to maintain order and discipline at this year’s Dasara procession.
Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep, who is also the Dasara Special Officer, held a meeting with the Police Department and Kannada and Culture Department in this regard.
Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Channappa said that 40 troupes, divided into 3 divisions, will take part in the procession.
Apart from this, cultural troupes from Sikkim, Punjab, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala too will be taking part in the procession, he said. Randeep instructed the officials to ensure that there were 40 members in each troupe and uniforms for all members of a troupe must be the same.
He also instructed for orderly march of tableaux and to ensure that NCC, Scouts and Guides and Seva Dal Wings compulsorily take part in the procession.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the Air Force has been requested to depute its music band for Jumboo Savari procession and torchlight parade. Although the Air Force authorities inspected the procession route, they have not yet confined the participation of their music band.
If the band confirms its participation, the Air Force men will play band music from the starting point at the Palace to K.R. Circle. Besides, the band will also perform at the Torchlight Parade Ground, he said.
