2018 Battle for Chamundeshwari in Mysuru: BJP may field Dr. Vidyabhushana against Siddharamaiah

Bengaluru: The prestigious Chamundeshwari Assembly Constituency in Mysuru will witness a high-pitched electoral battle in 2018 Assembly elections as Chief Minister Siddharamaiah has already made it clear that he would fight the election here. As soon as the CM made this announcement, there was a flutter among the rival political parties and sitting Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda announced that he was fully prepared to fight Siddharamaiah.

Close on the heels of these developments BJP, not to be left behind, is contemplating to field the noted classical singer and former Seer of Kukke Subramanya Mutt Dr. Vidyabhushana in the constituency. BJP sources said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is taking the initiative to bring in the Vidwan into the party fold and convince him to fight the elections and she has already discussed the issue with him.

Dr. Vidyabhushana is settled in Bengaluru and sources said that he has expressed his willingness to contest against the CM with the active backing of the party and its leaders. Sources also said that the final decision of the Vidwan contesting the election depends on the approval of Udupi Pejawar Mutt Seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji.
