20th anniversary of Muktaka Sahitya Academy

Felicitation to achievers, DVG Sahitya Award to Sri Nirupadeesha Swamiji 

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, city-based Karnataka Muktaka Sahitya Academy has organised a two-day programme at Mysore Vasudevacharya Bhavan, Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, JLB Road, in city on Feb.29 and Mar.1 which features seminar, Muktaka recitation, dance-drama, felicitation to achievers and presentation of Dr. DVG Muktaka Sahitya Award to Sri Nirupadeesha Swamiji of Bagalkot.

Feb.29 (Saturday)  

10.30 am: Seminar on ‘Kannada Muktaka Sahityaavalokana.’ Dr. Jyothi Shankar, Vid. K.P. Manjunath and Dr. Kabbinale Vasantha Bharadwaj will present their papers on different periods of Kannada Muktakas. Dr. Pradhan Gurudatta, former Professor and former Chairman of Kuvempu Bhasha Bharati, will inaugurate the function. S. Ramaprasad, President of Karnataka Muktaka Sahitya Academy, will preside. 

5 pm: Felicitation to achievers in different fields — Dr. H.K. Ramanath (Education, Theatre), B.M. Ramachandra (Costumes, Design), Dr. P.K. Rajashekar (Folk), Vidu. Nandini Eswer (Dance), Y.S. Subramanya (Science, Maths), Kollegala Sharma (Science Communication), K.S. Nagaraju (Auditing) and Dr. T.V. Satyanarayana (Sanskrit, Research). 

H. Chennappa, Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department, Mysuru, will be the chief guest. 

Mar.1 (Sunday)

10.30 am: Recital and commentary (Kavya Vaachana and Vyaakhyaana) on the selected portions of ‘Siddarama Vilasa,’ a poetry of Sri Nirupadeesha Swamiji, will be presented by Vid. K. Ramachandra and Dr. Jyothi Shankar. 

5 pm: Conferring of Dr. DVG Muktaka Sahitya Award on Sri Nirupadeesha Swamiji. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Hebri, a litterateur from Mandya, will be the chief guest.

6.30 pm: Dance-Drama ‘Kannada Dindima’ by Mysuru-based Nupura Kalavidaru dance troupe under the direction of Natyacharya Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao, according to a press release from M.B. Santhosh, General Secretary of the Academy. 

About the awardee

Sri Nirupaadeesha Swamiji was born in 1942 in an Agricultural family to Shivalingaiah-Neelamma couple at Mareguddi village of Jamakandi taluk in Bagalkot. After completing the formal education, he was inducted as the pontiff of the Adavi Mutt of Sri Adaviswamy in 1965. From there on, he has written more than 20 valuable books on literature pertaining to spirituality, love, confession and the like. His Muktaka compositions ‘Adavisiddhana Anche’ and ‘Geluvenemba Bhashe’ are remarkable works and have obtained a number of awards and acclaims throughout the country. He is equally competent in Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit literature and has brought out some books also.
