24-day ‘Prasaranga Pustakotsava’ from tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: University of Mysore’s (UoM) Publication Wing ‘Prasaranga’ is organising a 24-day ‘Prasaranga Pustakotsava’ (Book Fair) special discount sale at its premises in Manasagangothri on Hunsur Road from Dec. 8 to 31.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Friday, Prasaranga Director Prof. Nanjaiah M. Honganur said, “for the first time, a 50% discount on Kannada Encyclopaedia is being given during Book Fair. The previous highest discount was 25%.”

There will be 25% discount on English-Kannada dictionary, 10% on ‘Pracharopanyasa Maale’ and 50% on the Centenary issue of Prabuddha Karnataka Tri-Monthly magazine, he said adding that there will be 75% discount on old PUC and Degree text books, 75% on all Prasaranga publications published over 40 years ago, 70% for old ORI publications, 60% on old Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS) publications and 50% on all other general books that are up for sale.

He further said that the Prasaranga expects a revenue of Rs. 25 lakh through special discount sale of books during the 24-day Fair with over 9 lakh books under 870 titles up for sale.

“Prasaranga is doing everything to augment revenues of UoM. It is doing a yearly transaction of Rs. 60-70 lakh. In the special discount provided during November this year, books worth of Rs. 3 lakh were sold. Prasaranga, which was established in 1933, is now 92-year-old. This was a dream project of Poet Laureate Kuvempu. Prasaranga has printed books under more than 2,800 titles thus far. Soon, a website of Prasaranga will be launched,” he said adding that 25 books of ‘Pracharopanyasa Maale’ are ready for release.
