245 betel leaf growers to get lands on Mar.10

Mysuru:  District Minister Dr.H.C. Mahadevappa has said that 245 families which had been cultivating Mysuru Betel leaves for generations at ‘Yele Thota’ would soon get title deeds for five guntas of land each.

While 150 of them would get the lands at the Sewage Farm in Vidyaranyapuram, 95 others would get lands at an alternative location at Machanahalli on the outskirts of the city.

The farmers had been demanding for the lands, as the ‘Yele Thota’ had been used by the erstwhile CITB for various purposes, including dumping of garbage.

Addressing press persons after the inspection of lands and Ashokapuram area on Tuesday, Dr.  Mahadevappa said that Chief Minister Siddharamaiah will distribute the title deeds to the beneficiaries on Mar.10.

The distribution of title deeds is a result of the demands of the people over the past four decades, he added.

Continuing, the Dr. Mahadevappa said in view of giving a facelift to Ashokapuram area, the MCC as drawn a plan to improve civic amenities at a cost of Rs. 22 crore.

While the Public Works Department (PWD) has released Rs. 10 crore, MUDA has agreed to sanction Rs. 12 crore, the Minister said and added that the PWD will be spending Rs. 5 crore for the construction of a stadium on Siddhartha School Ground.
