Bengaluru: The State Cabinet yesterday gave its approval for the development of roads in and around Bengaluru and at district headquarters to ease traffic congestion. Along with this, it has also constituted an Empowered Committee for development of Ring Roads around 25 cities, mainly district headquarters, under the Town Planning Scheme.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Law MinisterT. B. Jayachandra said that the roads will be developed by the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. (KRDCL) at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,095 crore.
The Government has set aside Rs. 275 crore for taking up a study, survey and give a detailed project report on the construction of 25 ring roads around district headquarters.
The Committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary to the Urban Development Department, has been given a time-frame of five years to complete the task, he said.
The Ring Roads will be constructed on the outskirts of cities including Madikeri, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagaram, Hassan, Mandya and Chitradurga.
A proposal to bring all urban local bodies under one uniform law was also approved and the Cabinet has requested the National Law School of India University to study the present Karnataka Municipal Act, 1964 and Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, 1974 to draft a uniform Act, Jayachandra said.
“The proposal is to bring all Urban Local Bodies under one enactment. Urban experts have pointed out that the multiplicity of Legislation sometimes results in overlap of procedures, delays in plan sanctions and many of the clauses in the existing enactments are redundant and need to be structured,” Jayachandra said.
The Cabinet has approved the Karnataka Forest Department Services (Recruitment of meritorious sportspersons in the category of Deputy Range Forest Officers, Forest Watchers) Special Rules, 2017 for recruiting national and international sportspersons for ‘C’ and ‘D’ category groups.
The Forest Department has decided to fill 125 posts under the sports category. As of today, 54 vacancies existed under the category, Jayachandra said. To make Bengaluru the electric vehicle capital of India, the Cabinet approved a new ‘electric vehicle and energy storage policy’ to reduce pollution and promote healthy environment.
