Mysuru’s top women chess player H.R. Manasa (the former State Women’s Champion & the current Karnataka U-19 girls Champion), taking part in the 26th National Youth U-25 Chess Championship 2017 at Port Blair representing Karnataka, fared well by securing 5.5 points from nine rounds and finished 36th in the final placings.
IM P. Shyamnikhil of Tamil Nadu and FM Mitrabha Guha (WB) tied with 8 points each from nine rounds, but the former’s better tie-break score of 57 to the later’s 54 helped him to clinch the title. Y. Grahesh (7-53.5), Mohite Ranveer (7-50.5) secured the third and fourth places respectively while S. Badrinath (TN) with 6.5 points secured the fifth place.
Karnataka’s A. Balkishan secured 5.5 points from nine rounds and secured the 29th place. H.R. Manasa had wins over D. Shrestha Vijay (A&N), Kasthuri Bai (A&N), B. Chandra Kala (A & N), Mishra Sandeep Kumar (Chatt) and H. Sai Simhdri (AP). She had a solitary draw against Udai Singh Gill (Chandigarh).
