Mysuru: The 31st National Road Safety Week was launched under the aegis of City Traffic Police at a programme held in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple in city yesterday.

Launching the programme,  City Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna opined that life is precious which should be protected by following road safety rules. He pointed out that drunken driving, improperly maintained vehicles and using cellphone while riding or driving can invite accidents and added that helmet for two-wheeler riders and safety seat belt for four-wheelers should be used as a precautionary measure.

Balakrishna pointed out that over-speeding was also a prime reason for accidents which should be avoided. He asked schools and colleges to create awareness among students on road safety rules. He said that awareness rallies would also be taken out in the jurisdictions of all Traffic Police Stations in city.

DCPs M Muthuraj and B.T. Kavitha, ACPs S.N. Sandesh Kumar, Shashidar and Shivashankar, Inspectors Jagadish, Basavaraj, B.G. Prakash and others were present.

An oath on road safety was administered to about 1,000 students of various schools.
