3,230 athletes to participate in Dasara CM Cup Sports Meet

Mysore/Mysuru: The four-day State-level Dasara CM Cup Sports Meet will be held from Sept. 22 to 25 at various venues across the city including Chamundi Vihar Stadium, said Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) Commissioner R. Chethan.

Addressing media persons recently at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad, he said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate Dasara Sports Meet on Sept. 22 at 5.30 pm at the Stadium. International Wrestler Vinesh Phogat will be the special invitee.

District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa and Animal Husbandry Minister K. Venkatesh will be present on the occasion. MLA Tanveer Sait will preside.

A total of 3,230 athletes, 646 men and women athletes from each division, will be taking part in the four-day Sports Meet to be held in 13 venues including Chamundi Vihar Stadium, D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium, University of Mysore Sports Pavilion, Manasagangothri Indoor Stadium among others.

“Athletes will be competing in 26 sporting events including athletics, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, swimming, volleyball, throwball, handball, weight lifting, chess, body-building, boxing, ball badminton, wrestling, shooting, yoga, netball, archery, wushu, table tennis among others”, he added.

Chethan also mentioned that participating athletes will be provided with food, boarding, transport, medical and other facilities. “Along with 3,230 athletes, 800 technical staff will also take part in Dasara Sports. The Department will be providing lodging at 54 guest houses, food at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry and track suits,” he said and clarified that they will not be  providing shoes.

Cash Rewards: The DYES has also announced cash rewards for individual events and team events. While the winners in individual events will be awarded cash prize of Rs. 8,000, second place winners will get cash reward of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 2,500 for third place winners. Group events with maximum seven members will be awarded Rs. 4,000 for winners, Rs. 3,000 for runners and Rs. 2,000 for third place winners. For teams with more than 8 members, Rs. 3,000 will be awarded to winners, Rs. 2,000 for runners and Rs. 1,000 for third place winners.

Chamundi Hill climbing competition : DYES Commissioner Chethan also announced that Chamundi Hill climbing competition would be held on Sept. 24 for residents of Mysuru. The winner will receive cash prize of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,000 for runner-up and Rs. 5,000 for third place. Along with Chamundi Hill climbing competition, the Department will also organise chess for visually-impaired, cycle polo, karate, body-building competitions for local residents along with 10,000 mts run for men and 5,000 mts run for women.

DYES Assistant Director Bhaskar Naik, Dasara Sports Sub-Committee Deputy Special Officer and Mysuru Development Authority Secretary A.T. Johnson were present at the press meet.
