7-year-old boy electrocuted

Nanjangud: A seven-year-old boy has been electrocuted at Morarji Desar Residential School at Mahadevanagar in the taluk yesterday.

The deceased boy is Yuvin, son of Basavanna, a Physical Education (PE) Teacher at the school and a native of Doddarayapete village in Chamarajanagar taluk. Yuvin was studying in second standard at Dalavai Government Higher Primary School at Nanjangud.

Basavanna, along with his son, was staying in the guest house of the residential school. On Sunday morning, Basavanna and Yuvin went to the dining hall of the school to fetch drinking water and as there was less pressure, they kept a can below the tap and came home. After some time, Yuvin went to the dining hall to see if the can was filled and lifted the water pipe during which he was electrocuted. The cooking staff, who noticed it, informed Basavanna and rushed Yuvin to a private hospital in Nanjangud, but he had breathed his last by then. The body was shifted to the Taluk Hospital for post-mortem.

In his complaint with Biligere Police, Basavanna has held the School Principal, Warden, cooking staff and others responsible for his son’s death due to their negligence.

Dy.SP Govindaraju, Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar and SI Arati visited the spot.
