Srirangapatna: NSS volunteers of Seshadripuram Degree College in Mysuru, Achievers Academy of Srirangapatna and the Town Panchayat administration jointly undertook the cleaning of a Shiva Temple that is over 700-years-old.
The Temple is located in front of the Gosai Ghat in an island on River Cauvery. Volunteers cleared the wild weed growth that had literally choked the Temple surroundings and after clearing, the Temple was painted. Even villagers of Ganjam joined hands with the teams in restoring the centuries-old Temple.
On Monday, Mandya Deputy Commissioner Dr. M.V. Venkatesh visited the Gosai Ghat and also the restored Tempe. Appreciating the work of villagers, NSS volunteers and others, the DC said that the Gosai Ghat would be developed and a zip line on the lines of Kere Thonnur would be set up. Zip line will help devotees to easily visit the Shiva Temple that is in the middle of an island, he added.
Those who come to Gosai Ghat to pay obeisance to the elders must not come to this Temple for ‘Pinda Pradhana’ as old clothes and food leftovers are discarded carelessly and this will mar the beauty of the island Temple, he opined.
Leaving clothes, slippers and other plastic items would pollute the river banks, the DC said, directing the Town Panchayat Chief Officer Krishna and officials to take measures to ensure cleanliness in the surroundings.
