Mysuru: Urging various Kannada groups and organisations to bury the hatchet and come together for the 83rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana to take place in city from Nov. 24 to 26, District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa has appealed all Kannada groups and organisations to set aside their differences and come together to make the Sammelana a grand success.

He was speaking after reviewing the Sammelana preparations at the Government Guest House here yesterday. Pointing out that the District Administration will be backbone of the Sammelana, he instructed the Publicity Committee to widen the event campaign at taulk levels.

Declaring that food will be provide free of cost for the general public during the Meet, he said that a common menu has been set for participants of the Meet and the general public. About one lakh people will be fed during the occasion which includes about 25,000 to 50,000 people from the general public, he said and added that food for the general public will be provided at Scouts and Guides Ground.

Directing the officials to ensure that delegates of the conference have a comfortable stay, the Minister asked the officials to illuminate the Mysore Palace from Nov. 24 to 26 and to use red and yellow flags to highlight the Karnataka Flag.

Asking various Sub-Committees to put everything in order within the deadline, Dr. Mahadevappa instructed them to maintain cleanliness, provide clean drinking water and set up a good number of temporary toilets in city.

He further said that around 2,000 students from schools and colleges will form a human-chain at Mysore Palace holding red and yellow flags on the morning of Nov. 20 and added that another human-chain will be formed to mark the 50th year of Kuvempu’s Sri Ramayana Darshanam.

Asked about the complaint lodged with Lokayukta against alleged irregularities in Mysuru District Unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, he said that everyone has the right to lodge a complaint in a democratic system. “No one is above the law and the law will take its own course,” he added.

Channappa and other officials attended the meeting.

Dr. Mahadevappa handed over MUDA’s Rs. 3 lakh cheque to the authorities for the three-day Children’s Science Congress to take place at Senate Bhavan in Manasagangothri from Nov.29.
