8th Anniversary of Devagitam Charitable Trust tomorrow

Grand vocal concert by Dr. Pantula Rama

Mysuru: Devagitam Charitable Trust celebrates its 8th Anniversary with a grand vocal concert by Dr. Pantula Rama on Saturday, the 30th of November. The Trust has been serving the Arts, Literature and Education since its inception in 2011. It has been striving towards preserving and propagating the works of H. Yoganarasimham, scholar-composer of Mysuru, through concerts by eminent artistes and workshops.

‘Sangeeta Kalasagara’ Dr. Pantula Rama is a total musician who has seamlessly merged classicism with novelty, intellectualism with aesthetics and sahitya with sangeeta bhava. Hailing from Vishakhapatnam, Dr. Rama had her initial training in music from her father Pantula Gopala Rao. Her musical persona was later shaped by “Sangeeta Kalasagara” Ivaturi Vijayeswara Rao.

Equipped with a vast repertoire and a highly imaginative approach, she is renowned for her interpretation of the works of old and new composers.  Her mastery and effortless rendition of Ragam, Tanam, Pallavi and exploring new possibilities within that framework has enthralled audiences. Her efforts to propagate the right way to sing “sadhinchene”, with all the swarasahityas suffixed by the Pallavi is a commendable contribution to Karnatak music practice in recent times. She has founded PaRa…the Supreme, a ‘no barrier’ socio-cultural movement, with the goal of creating and heightening the awareness of the art of Karnatak music with an openness towards all genres of music. The objective of the movement is to achieve oneness with the Supreme Consciousness through pure note (SwacchSwar). Music is her life, and she is doubly blessed to have eminent artiste Vid. MSN Murthy as her life partner. The couple have been conquering the hearts of rasikas world over with their music.

Accompanying her would be Vid. MSN Murthy on violin, Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar on mridanga and Vid. Sharath Koushik on ghata. The programme commences at 6.30 pm tomorrow at Veena Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar.
