Mysuru:  Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities V .S Basavaraj alleged that 90 per cent of the special children are deprived of government facilities because of discrimination policy.

He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Training and Rehabilitation of Persons Facing Communication Skills’ at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) Auditorium in city recently.

He came down heavily on the government for discriminating the challenged persons by not implementing facilities and empowerment programmes meant for them.

“Where will these children go if the government itself is not implements the programmes meant for them properly,”  he asked.

The government should come up with skill development programmes for special children to make them self-reliant  apart from imparting education by providing facilities on par with other children studying in government schools.

Stating the government has been spending crores of rupees to ensure free and compulsory education for all children below 14 years under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, he alleged that the government was not concentrating on higher education aspects of special children.

Due to this discriminatory mindset, the number of special students writing SSLC exams has dwindled in the recent years, Basavaraju rued.
