93 religious structures classified as illegal

A religious structure at Nanjumalige demolished by MCC.

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has made a list of 93 religious structures and has classified them as illegal and has fixed the date of demolition as per the Supreme Court and High Court directives.

Of the 93 structures, there are four tombs, one Dargah and one Church and the rest are Temples. The MCC has included Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Mathrumandali Circle too in the list but later removed it as it is not a religious place.

In the list, it has been mentioned that the demolition of Chidambareswara Temple near K.R. Hospital has to be decided by the District Committee. Also, the Temple near Dewan Poornaiah Choultry on M.G. Road has been included in the list. But as this Temple belongs to the Muzrai Department, a clarification has been sought from the Department.

Demolition of certain Temples have been questioned in the Court by the local residents and the Courts have issued a stay. This fact too has been mentioned in the list prepared by the MCC.

The list includes Ganesha Temple on Nelson Mandela Road near KSRTC Bus Depot, Manjunathaswamy Temple, Arali Katte, K.G. Koppal Ganapathi and Chandramouleshwara Temples on Kamakshi Hospital Road, Mahaganapathi Temple at Brindavan Extension First Stage, Panchamukhi Temple on Sayyaji Rao Road and CSI Church Karunapura on Mysuru-Bengaluru Road near B.R. Ambedkar Circle.
