Mysore/Mysuru: Two-time Olympian and former Indian Goalkeeper Anjaparavanda B. Subbaiah from Kodagu has been appointed as the High Performance Director of Khelo India, a Central Government programme for the development of sports.
Subbaiah will perform the role of High Performance Director from the Jayaprakash Narayan Youth Centre in Bengaluru.
Subbaiah will take initiative to strengthen the sports ecosystem by encouraging mass participation and promotion of excellence and he has been entrusted with the responsibility of shooting, athletics and swimming.
Subbaiah had a long and storied career for the National team, racking up over 100 appearances in the span of a decade between 1988 and 1998. He was a two-time silver medallist in the Asian Games, before eventually claiming a coveted Asian Games Gold medal in 1998.
He has been serving in the field of hockey for more than 38 years — player, coach, selector, manager of both Indian men and women hockey teams. He has represented Indian Hockey team for 11 consecutive years in more than 285 international matches which includes 2 Olympics, World Cup, 3 Asian Games, Asia Cups, 3 Champions Trophy, Commonwealth Games, 4 Intercontinental Cup — Olympic & World Cup Qualifiers, SAF Games and many other intl. tourneys and test matches.
