A unique Angklung Concert tomorrow

Mysuru: A unique instrumental concert will be held at Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama on Ooty Road in city on May 22 at 6 pm on the occasion of birthday celebration of the Swamiji.

Angklung, an Indonesian bamboo instrument, is specially designed and adopted by Dr. H.S. Anasuya Kulkarni for Karnatak music, an exponent in playing angklung. She has trained number of students to play this instrument. On May 22, there will be 13 angklungs being played led by Dr. Anasuya Kulkarni. The artistes age range from five-year-old lad to 80+ years artistes.

Special emphasis will be on songs composed by Swamiji being played on angklung with traditional songs included.

Dr. Anasuya Kulkarni has doctorate in music, has performed in all prestigious Sabhas, International Bamboo Festivals, televisions in India and abroad.

She has many awards to her credit. Articles about her have been published in many print media. She was a very popular singer of yesteryears and now, she is the only artiste in India who has expertise in playing angklung for Indian music.

She has donated over 200 musical instruments which were collected from various countries during her stay with her husband Narayan Kulkarni, a UNDP official to Vishwa Museum at the Sachchidananda Ashrama which is on display at the museum along with many musical instruments collection of Swamiji.

It is a rear musical instrument museum worth visiting. Swamiji personally took great interest and inaugurated the Instruments Museum recently. It is a rear musical treat to witness 13 angklungs played together in the august presence of Swamiji.
