Sir,
I was not surprised reading the news item ‘Aadhaar Card correction a painstaking process,’ published in SOM on Feb. 13.
Tax-payers face problems at every office they visit because of lack of merit in the staff dealing with the issuing of the card. Apart from a few sincere and merited workers, most of them are incompetent, don’t even have sound knowledge of Kannada and English languages, don’t know the office rules. Naturally they do not respond to the people’s problems when they are approached.
When it comes to getting an Aadhaar Card or to get some corrections in it done, none of the officials concerned provide proper information. For example, the name ‘Asha’ in Kannada is typed as ‘Asa.’ ‘Ramaiah is typed as Ramappa’ despite the names being written in capital letters in the application forms. This apart, even the date of birth and address are typed wrongly due to lack of efficient and responsible persons deployed for it.
Earlier, when payment of Property Tax under Self Assessment Scheme (SAS), said to be a very easy procedure, was implemented by the MCC, I had to go thrice to the MCC office near Ballal Circle. Whenever the officials say it is an easy procedure, it is actually a hell for the tax-payers. When I went to the MCC office regarding SAS, it was closed once and when I again went, there was a serpentine queue but somehow got the work done after a lot of argument.
Even Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) resorts to power cuts for maintenance and repair, but they don’t follow the time. They announce that there would be power cut for three hours but they do not give power even after five hours. In this modern world, technology is at the finger tip, but there is a lack of efficiency in manpower to provide efficient service to the public.
The elected representatives and the senior officials should ensure that the staff with merit only are appointed and only then the problems could be solved.
