Chamarajanagar: Stressing on the need for a uniform education system in the country, academician Dr. S. Shivarajappa observed that it was important to impart education to children in their mother tongue at the primary level.
Speaking to SOM on the sidelines of the three-day Chamarajanagar District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Chamarajanagar on Sunday, Dr. Shivarajappa, who is the Sammelana Chairperson, said that it was time for a full stop to commercialisation of education.
Noting that non-Kannadigas living in the State should be asked to learn Kannada within a stipulated time, he regretted the passion of Kannadigas for ‘Convent culture.’
Asserting that the medium of instruction in Primary Schools (first to fourth standards) should be Kannada, he reiterated that only a uniform education alone can end disparity in education.
Asking the State Government to make Kannada medium mandatory at Primary level of education, he bemoaned the growing craze for ‘Convent culture’ among Kannadigas. He further said that nothing can be done for promoting Kannada if commercialisation of education is not brought to an end.
Emphasising on the need for holding more such literary meets, he pointed out that any meet will serve the purpose only if it is systematically organised. Observing that the resolutions passed at literary meet do have their own significance, he said that the Government should not take the resolutions lightly and must seriously consider them for implementation.
Dismissing the purported notion that Chamarajanagar is a cursed district, he said that the district was home to many famous shrines such as MM Hills and BR Hills. Opining that the Sammelana is a knowledge-bearing torch, Dr. Shivarajappa said, he wished that the meet dispel ignorance through the light of knowledge.
