Mysuru: The ‘heliride’ was inaugurated yesterday at the Lalitha Mahal Helipad by MLA Somashekar. Many are eager to fly in the helicopter to view the beautiful city from the skies. But, there is a flip side to this, which cries for everyone’s attention.
Last year around during Dasara time, a tragedy unfolded, when a 13-year-old girl who was viewing a helicopter flying above her house lost her right hand due to electric shock. The victim Meghana lost her arm in a freak accident and it had to be amputated three inches from above her elbow.
She was excited about the Dasara helicopter joyride and this yoga enthusiast used to visit her uncle’s house in VV Mohalla every evening to watch the flying machine with her hands spread widely and running around on the terrace.
Daughter of photographer Arun Kumar and a resident of Vinayakanagar, Meghana came in contact with a live wire while running and imitating the helicopter’s manoeuvre. Her right hand was burnt and she was treated at Brindavan Hospital in Jayalakshmipuram. The incident occurred on Oct. 4, 2016. After undergoing treatment, she was living in her grandparents’ house in Ekalavya Nagar near Vikrant Tyres.
Meghana is now studying in tenth standard at St.Jospeh’s School, Jayalakshmipuram and she has completely recovered from the trauma. However, the tragedy is, she lost one arm said her father Arun Kumar to Star of Mysore. The braveheart has more or less put the accidental tragedy behind her and is doing well in her studies, he said.
