Account lapses at MUDA: Legislature Audit Committee gives one month time to clarify

Mysuru: The Audit Committee of Karnataka Legislature visited Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) here yesterday and scrutinised the records.

The Committee Chairman and MLA S.R. Mahesh sought a comprehensive report on utilisation of funds, development of lakes, employees welfare fund and bank guarantees. He pointed out that MUDA had not furnished details of utilisation of funds worth Rs. 359 crore from 1961 to 2015. He further said that MUDA had collected Rs. 50 crore through lake cess but had not developed even a single lake.

Referring to collection of Rs. 7 crore towards Employees Welfare Fund, Mahesh alleged that the amount had been spent on some other work thus flouting norms and ethics. He warned of recovering money from the MUDA Engineers concerned if the left over money in tendered contracts was not recovered from the assigned contractors especially when the amount to be recovered was a whopping Rs. 29 crore.

It is learnt that the Committee has given a time of one month to furnish all the details.
