Activist-writer Ananth no more

Mysore/Mysuru: Activist, writer and thinker G. Ananthapadmanabhan (65), popularly known as Ananth, passed away in the early hours of yesterday at his residence in Yadavagiri.

He is survived by his wife, activist Kavita Kuruganti and a daughter.

An alumnus of IIT Madras, where he completed a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Ananth began his career as a teacher at The School, Krishnamurti Foundation. He later served as CEO of Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives, CEO of Amnesty International India and International Programme Director at Greenpeace.

Cremation took place at Chirashanthidhama in Gokulam.

In a post on X, political analyst, psephologist, academic and activist Yogendra Yadav said, Ananth would be remembered as one of the most gifted minds who could think across fields and offer out-of-the-box solutions, adding that colleagues in the Bharat Jodo Abhiyaan would remember him as an unending source of ideas and energy.
